A new and popular crag, Voulismeno Aloni is only 14km from downtown Heraklion, the capital of Crete. It is a massive circular sinkhole likely created by the collapse of a cavern roof, with a maximum diameter of 90m and a depth of 15-50m.
Climbing: Limestone of mostly good quality, except for some obvious sections of questionable rock which need care. Climbing is primarily on vertical or steep walls with pockets, holes and crimps. There are 44 routes for all tastes and grades, from training routes to very hard climbs (4c to 8c), though the bolting can be sparse. The main equipper is Aristoteles Mavromatis.
Conditions: A beautiful natural amphitheater which allows climbing all day long, all year round. That said, climbing is best between March-May and September- November. There is shade all day depending on which side you are at.
Kids: Very good, with flat terrain and a very short walk-in.
