As the name implies, the crag is in a small, idyllic gorge not too far outside of Pyli, at the foot of Mount Kerketio (Kóziakas), and it is surrounded by enormous, centuries-old plane trees. The cliffs are on the right-hand wall as you enter the gorge. Just opposite the main crag, local climbers have built a wooden ‘chill-out’ deck, where you can also spend the night with your tent or sleeping bag. For drinking water, use the tap on the black water pipe near the routes ‘Blade’ and ‘Road to Hell’. The water comes straight from the mountain and supplies a village next to Pyli.
Climbing
Limestone cliffs with varied features and excellent quality. Most routes are on slightly overhanging rock with tufas, but the climbing is far from monotonous. Routes have been very well-cleaned and protected with stainless-steel bolts and clipable lower-offs by an active community of climbers from Trikala and Pyli, notably Pascuale Zafiriadis and Tasos Georgitsis/Christos
Tsourvakas.
Conditions
The ideal season for climbing in the cool gorge is between May and November. If you climb in the summer, opt for early morning and late afternoon. Winter/early spring climbing is not ideal, since the tufas may be wet and the terrain at the base of the routes may be flooded by the stream.
