Mouzaki is the most popular sport climbing venue of Central Greece. The crag is on a natural balcony overlooking the Pamisos River valley, and some routes are so outstanding that they attract climbers, like bees to honey, from all over the country. The very active Trikala-based climbers (mainly Pascuale Zafiriadis with Tasos Georgitsis, Nikos Theodorou, Stefanos Motitsios, Nikos Gazos and Lazaros Botelis) have put a lot of work into equipping the crag: they used stainless-steel bolts and clipable lower-offs, leveled the terrain beneath the main crag, laid gravel, built a picnic table, fixed steps onto the steep bits of the path, and, last but not least, built a wooden cabin beneath the cliffs which sleeps 6-8 people and stays unlocked at all times. Please respect their hard work by protecting the crag and cleaning up after yourselves!
Climbing
Very solid, heavily pocketed limestone, with some impressive overhanging tufa sections and a huge variety of routes at every grade and angle.
Conditions
Climbing is possible year-round, but spring and fall are ideal. On hot days it is best to climb after 17:00, and after extended rainfall some of the tufas may stay wet for days.
