    Hi,

Our family will have a long holiday in Greece this summer. We would love to find some rock climbing with our two children of 7 and 9. They are total beginners, so grades of 3 and 4 are best (and some 5 for us).

We will be in the following places:
    – Thessaloniki / Halkidiki
    – Lesbos
    – Meteora
    – Vikos

Kalymnnos is too far from our route.

Would there be climbing sites with well equipped routes in these regions? The sites don’t need to be big, just a few routes and a family friendly setting is what we need (shadow/water nearby would be awesome).

    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Roel

    Hi Roel,

Halkidiki and Meteora would be your two climbing options.

    a) For Halkidiki, see an online topo (German/English) by the equippers here: http://hochtourengruppe.davbs.de/download/KletterfuehrerLoutra.pdf

    b) For Meteora, the best thing would be to climb the first pitches of some well-bolted easy routes (for example, “Isidora” at sector Doupiani): http://climbgreece.com/isidora/

The setting in both places is perfect for children (though Meteora is not close to the sea, but it is still quite beautiful).

    I hope this helps!
    Katie
