Kardamyli

Kardamyli is built along the rocky coast 35km southeast of Kalamata. It is an elegant seaside village with stone-built houses, restored medieval towers, and intimate coves surrounded by olive and cypress trees. In addition, a relatively new sport crag, Kalamitsi, has recently been developed on the outskirts of town. Overlooking Kardamyli, Mount Taygetus is home to an intricate network of well-marked hiking trails, and the terrain is ideal for walking, cycling or mountain running. The wider area of Kardamyli is magical: a small oasis of nature, beauty and tradition.

Climbing in Kardamyli: Kalamitsi crag is located near the road from Kardamyli to the popular seaside town of Stoupa. Climbing in Kalamitsi is on good quality, mostly grey limestone, with some interesting streaks of red rock. The crag was developed in 2013/14 and there is still vegetation and loose bits at the base of the routes. Climbing is expected to improve with traffic, however.
